Introducing 'Boss Yourself'

Welcome to Boss Yourself - a year of GSD for creators.

GSD, of course, means getting SHIZZLE done! Or, having your most crazy productive year to date.

If you haven't read the War of Art, by Steven Pressfield then get it on your shopping list. It's amazing.

In it he talks about the Resistance. I have that war with resistance every day. It stops us doing the important work, and guides us towards the easy, shiny tasks that pretend to be productive.

The aim of this course is to help you beat the resistance.

If art really is war, I want to show you how to lay siege to your goals, anyway.

See, this is the big lie I discovered when I really became my own boss. Being my own boss is the hardest bloody job in the world! And practically noone is good at it.

When you're neck deep in that war of art, you just can't do it. In the mess of the day, you can't boss yourself!

The thing is, as rubbish as it is sometimes, having a boss is amazing for getting stuff done. They tell you what, they tell you when, and they make you do it!

Not only that, they help you get the right stuff done. I don't know about you, but for me a few years back, even when I was getting stuff done, it's progress this way, then that way, then this way!

It's never in the same direction. Day after day. That's when you feel like you're getting nowhere.

But, if you have a boss that sees the big picture, gives you direction, makes the decisions. That's gold.

When you make just a wee bit of progress, in the same direction, every single week, that's the multiplier.

It's not just one boss either. If our art really is war, then we need a squad of bosses.

We need the general once a year, to set those goals. We need the captain every month to draw the map. We need the sarge every week to set the schedule. And we need the soldier every day to smash those tasks.

The key is that we have to create something that makes those bosses REAL in our day to day to work. That's where these tools come in. Planning and execution tools that I've used, I've refined, over the past 5 years to completely change the speed my business has moved at.

That's what this is about - I want to show you how to use those tools to build your own team of virtual bosses. They'll be real tools, drawing from your own planning. They'll be there with you behind the wall, and they'll guide you. When you're neck deep in the day to day, you can't see more than 10 minutes ahead thanks to the fires all around you, it's the boss you built yourself that keeps you on track.
